WALLPAPER: In the Northern Lights (Gilmore Girls)

Rory & Jess

I know, I know… Once again, I’m not delivering on what I promised in my previous post and have instead made something completely different. In my defense, I’ve been wanting to make a new Literati wallpaper based on the Gilmore Girls revival for some time; I just didn’t know where to begin. I was kind of upset about the lack of screen time between Rory and Jess, so suffice to say the inspiration wasn’t there. But I’ve been listening to the new Depeche Mode album on repeat, and I can’t shake the lyrics from “Cover Me” out of my head. It could probably fit any of my ships that weren’t endgame, but for some reason it made me think of Rory and Jess first. The best thing about it is, while I was making this, I stumbled upon this stock photo of a bride and groom sitting on a little bridge overlooking a lake. Completely by chance! It was fate. (And it already looks like the two of them from behind, so I didn’t even have to make a manip or anything!)

For the record, I still believe they end up together eventually. It’s just too bad we’ll never get to see it.

Next: The same stuff I mentioned last time.

WALLPAPER: The Courage of Stars (Gilmore Girls)

Desktop wallpaper featuring Rory & Jess from Gilmore Girls

I’m not going to get my hopes up about a Literati endgame for the Gilmore Girls revival. It’s one thing to finish one of your favorite TV series only to discover that not only did it not get a proper ending from the original creator, but your #1 OTP didn’t end up together nor were they allowed any sort of closure. I’m used to that. As I’ve said before, my ships are rarely endgame. But it’s a whole other thing to have to experience that angst twice for one show. Of course, like I said, I will be disappointed if Rory and Jess don’t get another chance because I really do feel that they are soulmates who never had time on their side. But whether or not they end up together romantically, I hope they will be in each other’s lives as friends, because these two should be besties and confidantes. This is the second in my series of wallpapers based on Sleeping At Last songs. The lyrics on this one are from the song “Saturn.”

Next: Bates Motel (Normero), Better Call Saul (McWexler)

WALLPAPER: Before We Got Old (Gilmore Girls)

Hard to believe, but it’s been nearly 9 years since I made a Gilmore Girls wallpaper. The last one was in the summer of 2006, and it also featured Rory and Jess. I’ve been rewatching seasons 1-3 of Gilmore Girls recently (which are the only 3 seasons worth reliving, in my opinion), and I’ve come to the conclusion that Rory and Jess are my #1 OTP of all time. Nathan and Haley still have some very sweet scenes, but that relationship just doesn’t hold up over time. Dan and Blair are the best all-around, but they lose major points for being on a ridiculous show. Michael and Maria were comedic gold for the first season and then it all went downhill. And as much as I love Linden and Holder, they were never an actual couple when the show was on the air. No one else is even worth mentioning.

My ships are rarely endgame. I should be used to it by now. But I always thought that Rory and Jess were actually meant to end up together, if not for circumstances beyond our control directly before the last season: ASP leaving the show, and Milo and Alexis calling it quits in real life. Which is what makes the end of Rory and Jess sting more than usual. So here is a throwback to my favorite book-loving TV couple of all time. A brand new Literati wallpaper to adorn our desktops. I even used lyrics to my favorite nostalgia-themed song, “Rainbows and Pots of Gold” by Stereophonics. In my mind, they do end up together somewhere along the line.

FANFIC: Yes We Did

Summary: January 2009; Washington, DC: Rory covers Obama’s inauguration while Jess stays at a nearby hotel, mentally reliving their relationship and beginning a new novel that will eventually change lives. Part 2 of my multi-fandom series, “Somewhere in this Wide World.”

Disclaimer: I do not own Gilmore Girls or its characters.  I do not own Obama’s inaugural speech.  I do not own Gossip Girl or Jack & Jill either.

A/N: This is the second part of a multi-fandom series I’m working on called “Somewhere in This Wide World.”  It charts the interlocking lives of 5 couples from 5 different shows over the course of 20 years.  They are all “aftermath” stories that take place in the future, beyond the original time period of each respective show.  You can read more of the series on my Fanfic page.  The parts are meant to work individually as standalone stories but also work together as a continuous series.  This part has minor references to Gossip Girl and Jack & Jill.  If you aren’t familiar with the shows, you won’t even notice.

Where the show left off: Rory lands a job covering Barack Obama’s campaign trail for an online magazine.  The last episode aired May 2007.  Jess was last seen in Philadelphia at the opening of Truncheon Books where Rory kissed him, then admitted that she was still in love with Logan (April 2006).
