WALLPAPER: Not Today (Melancholia)

Melancholia: Justine

At this point, I’m just going to pretend I didn’t say a bunch of other, unrelated wallpapers were coming. I’ve been meaning to watch Melancholia for a while but kept putting it off because it’s a bit long and I was afraid it would be enormously depressing. But it expired on Netflix earlier this month so I was forced to finally get it over with. It turned out to be one of the best movies I’ve seen so far this year (The Lobster and Paterson are the two others). Not only is it visually stunning, but it also captures the essence of depression in a way that is very honest but quietly subtle. I’m completely floored. As you can see, I’ve used some of the other lines from the song “Cover Me” in this wallpaper because they just fit so well. As I mentioned, I can’t get this song out of my head. I think it’s Depeche Mode’s best since “Precious,” at the very least. Also, in case you haven’t noticed from my long history of arts, I really love me some triangles and circles, and this film delivered them in spades.

Next: Well, I really am working on the various things I mentioned earlier this month, but I don’t blame you if you don’t believe me anymore. I think Bates Motel and Breaking Bad are my priorities right now. I’m also working on something new for Better Call Saul.
